Erasmus+ Youth Mindset Against Radicalization

First day at YMAR

We started our day getting to know each other by playing name games, doing ice breakers and fun dynamics. We continued by exposing our fears and expectations for the five following days. After we discussed and set the house rules, managing to accomplish them during the day.

Our first approach to the project theme consisted in a role play about some issues related to radicalization. We were divided in three groups, acting a play with a topic connected with extremism in front of the group, having a guess after their performances. Enjoying the good weather, we started the next activity: our first team building game. It consisted in non-verbal communication where we had to translate a message to a gesture meanwhile standing in a queue. It was fun to do it together, but eventually one of the teams ended up winning. Surprise.

Learning happened even during coffee and lunch breaks, the constant contact among our international group developed our relationships and built us up as a group. Great food created great atmosphere for great conversations. It was a good way of putting in practice the informal education we just talked about. With our bellies fulfilled, we enjoyed the surroundings of the venue and took the chance to go the close-by beach and take a rest.

After the rest, we came back to our program with a fun activity outdoors. We were divided in groups, having to accomplish some tasks around the city of Coma-Ruga. In this improvised tour, we found out some historical buildings and got to know people from the area, immersing ourselves into the Spanish culture. We took many pictures and shared our experiences with the whole group.

In the second part of the afternoon, we had the chance to learn about each other’s history, highlighting the most important events and connecting them. To close the day, we had to guess who were the authors of some quotes related to the topic of the project.

Now we are eager to spend another delicious meal together and then learn some traditional Spanish dances, and get to know each other more.
